How long should my podcast be?

There is no ideal duration for a podcast.

Consider a cosy, fireside chat style podcast with your favourite comedian. You could easily listen for 90 minutes straight.

Whereas an information-heavy, factual podcast which required greater attention and focus may lead to fatigue for the listener after 30 minutes. Or sooner!

For this reason we don't set a prescriptive duration for a podcast - we would rather discuss the content with you, assess your objectives and who your audience is before suggesting a rough duration.

Don't forget, we may record one hour solid, but once you've had a chance to review the content, you may decide to cut 20 minutes. Editing will shape the podcast to be as engaging as possible.

Can I record a podcast with guests anywhere in the world?

Yes! Using online platforms such as Riverside and Streamyard, it's possible to hook up with guests around the globe.
We strongly advise testing the connections before any recordings and using good quality USB mics where possible.

We are happy to offer free advice on this and for all clients who choose remote recordings, we offer tech tests and support ahead of any recording to ensure optimum quality.

How do I promote a podcast?

Once a podcast episode is made, we strongly advise creating promotional assets such as audiograms or video clips that can be shared on social media channels to drive traffic.
Social media and reaching out to existing contacts (via an email list, for example) remain the most effective ways of building an audience without additional expenditure.

Should you wish to invest in further marketing, we can discuss options available to you.

Can I record a podcast myself?

Yes! You can begin recording with just a good-quality USB microphone into a laptop using an online recording platforms such as Riverside or Streamyard. We don't recommend using Teams or Zoom as these are primarily conference tools.

Should you wish to edit yourself, you will need an editing suite.

There are some freebies out there (like Audacity or iMovie) that are great for doing the basics. Audio processing (cleaning audio), image grading and general editing skills take time (and specialist software) to get right, though; this is why clients often pass their media to us for editing.

What is a podcast producer?

A podcast producer oversees the whole project and manages every stage of production.

Depending on your requirements, these will be:
- pre-production which includes creative, scheduling and tech set up
- recording in studio, on location or via online platform
- post-production which includes editing, adding voiceovers, music and any other elements
- upload to hosting platform and distribution

We believe it's vital to assign the same producer to any project to ensure continuity, build trust and a good working relationship.
